Alcoa has announced that it will split into two publicly traded companies in the second half of 2016, a step that is the culmination of the company's ongoing product portfolio transformation. This move will separate the company's upstream commodity businesses from its value-added business segments. The split will decouple the high-growth value-added segments from the upstream commodity businesses, which have suffered from weakness in aluminum pricing.
